James R. Greiner

OF COUNSEL

James (Jay) Greiner has been practicing law since 1986.  Jay has been the principal of Law Offices of James R. Greiner since 1990 and joined Jacobsen & McElroy PC in an of counsel position in July 2019.   He is a graduate of University of California, Davis with a BA in Economics and also a graduate of the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.   Jay’s areas of past practice include civil, criminal and tribal law and at Jacobsen & McElroy he brings great depth and experience to our personal injury and habitability practice groups.  Jay has significant experience in appellate matters and will also be overseeing our appellate practice.   Mr. Greiner began his career working at the California Supreme Court for California under Supreme Court Justice Richardson as his extern both in San Francisco and Sacramento.  He also has extensive trial experience in civil, criminal and tribal law and has represented Fortune 500 companies in class action litigation including car manufacturers and a tire company as well as handling other complex civil matters.

Jay is a past Vice-President of the California State Bar, Past State Bar Board of Governor member and also past President of the Sacramento County Bar Association.  He has also been a member of the Anthony Kennedy Inn of Court and the Schwartz/Levi Inn of Court which groups are dedicated to ethics, professionalism and civility in the legal profession.  Mr. Greiner has many civic accomplishments having been a very successful mock trial attorney coach at Rio Americano High School in Sacramento, which is his alma mater since 1979 as well as teaching constitutional law to high school students.  

His hobbies including spending time with his family, running trails and ultra-races, gardening, sports and Disneyland trips.
